About the event
Discover the essence of slapstick : stumbling, slipping, falling, and failing with flair. In this playful, physical workshop, you'll learn how "accidents" become comic moments, how they reveal your character, and how to find both grand and subtle forms of physical humor.
We delve into the rich heritage of slapstick—from Chaplin and Buster Keaton to Jacques Tati, Monty Python—and explore how slapstick works with movement, rhythm, props, costumes, and everything else we encounter.
Slapstick is a form of dance: off-beat, clumsy, surprising, and wonderfully liberating.
For actors, clowns, dancers, improvisers, comedians, street performers, teachers and anyone who wants to awaken their creative spirit or is simply curious about physical comedy.
The workshop is open to almost anyone who wants to play! The only important consideration is whether participants have any physical issues—such as knee, back, or other injuries, current or not—that could be aggravated by active movement.
